Scotties of Powell stands out as a charming, retro-style diner nestled in the heart of Powell, Tennessee. From the moment you step inside, the warm, down-home atmosphere wraps around you like a familiar blanket. The crowd is friendly, the staff attentive despite the steady rush, and the setting exudes a nostalgic touch with vintage stools, green menu tablets, and the unmistakable hum of the grill in the background.
The food here is nothing short of remarkable. Each dish speaks to a careful dedication to freshness and quality—bacon cooked to order that still steams on your plate, omelettes brimming with real, fresh eggs and hearty meat portions, and biscuits smothered in homemade gravy that tastes like a hug on a plate. The cheeseburgers, whether classic or loaded with bacon, are juicy and perfectly seasoned, earning the raves of locals and visitors alike. Even the crinkle-cut fries, usually not my favorite, came out crispy and flavorful enough to win me over.
Scotties isn’t about flashy or over-the-top culinary experiments but rather honest, wholesome comfort food served with warmth and passion. The honey bun dessert is an unexpected highlight—sweet, tender, and so good it makes you wish you’d brought a box home. It’s also worth noting the prices here are incredibly reasonable, making Scotties a great spot for hearty meals that won’t break the bank.
This place shines brightest in the mornings with its stellar breakfast offerings. The homemade breakfast gravy is a must-try, and the limited quantity means you’ll want to arrive early. The small space and popular menu mean it can be busy, but the friendly team keeps the service moving without losing that personal touch. Cash-only adds to the old-school charm, encouraging patrons to savor the moment rather than rush.
In sum, Scotties of Powell isn’t just a diner—it’s a nostalgic experience steeped in genuine flavors and heartfelt hospitality. For anyone looking to enjoy authentic, classic American diner food done right, this hidden gem on Clinton Highway should be your next stop.
“ BLT was great. They cooked the bacon when the sandwich was ordered so it was nice and fresh! The lady next to us at the counter was enjoying her small burger so much I had to try one. OMG I see why she was enjoying it so much. YUM. The crincle cut fries were really good and I usually don't like crickle cut fries. It was a little hard to find the location. We drove by it and turned around that is when we saw the sign by the road. The building did not have a sign that I could see. But well worth the effort to get there. If you want good food I definitely recommend! ”
“ Always great people. Down home feeling because it is! Great food. Leave happy and full :) Thank you all. ”
“ The food was very good. We got a big cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, chicken fries, onion rings, fries, and honey bun. Everything was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I've grown very accustomed to feeling disappointment with restaurants these days. I must say, everything was better than I expected and the prices are awesome. The honey bun is AMAZING. I could easily buy a whole box of those. Our server was extremely polite, quick, and helpful. Overall, it was a great experience and we will be back! ”
“ I'm sad to say I am just now trying this gem but it was a guys evening so with my boys and nephew we decided to give it a go. Don't be in a hurry and it's not because of slow service those ladies were working hard they are popular. It's a small space but it felt as if we had been there a million times. The food was outstanding and can't wait to go again. Oh it's cash only and since I could not see the huge sign going in they were gracious and laughing as my 20 year old nephew bailed us out paying for the bill. ”
“ Small, retro diner. Most seating is at the bar, with a few tables on the side. Food is great and the price is great too! The ladies working there are busy, but on top of it and polite. I had the omelette with two meats (sausage and ham) with onions and tomatoes. Real, fresh eggs are used for the omelette and that thing is stuffed full of meat! Great breakfast spot, I'm sure it's equally good for lunch or dinner. The building could use some TLC, but that won't stop me from coming back. ”
